8 Simple Daily Habits for a Simpler and Happier Life

Life is complicated. This reality is even seen in the practical aspects of daily life. In the last several years, the search for simplicity in several areas allowed me to enjoy every day of my life. I call this progress.

But in many ways, I’ve found more choices, opportunities or activities only makes my life more complicated and prevents me from enjoying. I realize that I must learn to lead a balanced and simple life.

Here are eight little things that are very simple to implement but will have big impact on your life.

Living in the present

This is where everything happens: the present moment. This is the only place where you can experience happiness regardless of circumstances. This may seem very silly and obvious but if you can achieve it, it can transform your life.  When I’m in this, I am more creative, more open to novelty, I feel better and I act better.

Listen with attention

Listen with attention. Give others the gift of your full attention. This is a great source of happiness as it creates closer ties between people. At the same time, you remain rooted in the present rather than already thinking about what you will answer without really listening.

Take time to recharge the batteries

Even though we live in a society that invites us to do more, have more, be more, we need time to rest to regain energy. Why not take breaks and a nap if you can. Please be sure to include these rest times in your agenda.

Be surrounded by happy people

Attitudes are contagious. If someone smiles at you, you will definitely do the same in response. If someone is rude to you, you will no doubt also be tough against him. Knowing this, it will be easier by spending time with happy people that you really enjoy. If there is nobody around you that corresponds to this, you can alternatively watch inspirational videos on the Internet to feel better.

Work more slowly

Laozi (ancient Chinese philosopher) summarized very well, “nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished”.  Faster does not mean better. Busier does not necessarily mean more things completed. By slowing down, you’re going to be better focused and concentrate on what you do instead of going in many directions and really finish anything.

 Letting go

This is not always easy, but it is the only way to live in peace and make room for the new. Trying whenever possible to let go with all that does not serve you: negativity, frustration, worries about the future… Letting go things will help to find new options for your life.

Forgive more often

Maybe someone was late, rude or forgot to call you; try to forgive them. Forgiveness does not excuse but it can free you from what really matter. This will let go of the resentment that may exist and other negative emotions attached to this person or situation.

Create Your Own Happiness

It’s frustrating to depend on external elements and circumstances to feel good or not. When this is the case, as soon as our life does not unfold as we wish, our happiness disappears at the same time. Happiness is not a life without problems, without difficulty, without new challenge to grow. It is instead to be able to enjoy life no matter where you are and what you can live.

“Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.” (Aristotle)
