Coffee Break Wisdom: Who Should You Pick?
February 22, 2017The following question was asked during a job interview.
You drove a car in a stormy night. You went through a bus stop. There were three people who were anxiously waiting for the bus. The first one was an elderly, if he was not sent to the hospital immediately, he would about to die. The second one was a doctor, the doctor saved your life before, you wanted to reward him by giving him a ride. The third one was your dream lover, and this was one and the only one chance you could make him/her fall in love with you. But your car can only accommodate one passenger, who would you choose?
I am not sure whether this is a question to test your characteristics because every possible answer may have its own reasons:
- The senior people is about to die, theoretically you should save him first.
- You also want the doctor on your car because he has saved your life, and this is a good opportunity for you to repay him.
- There is also your dream lover there. If you miss this opportunity, you may never be able to meet someone who makes you so hearty.
In the 200 candidates, only one person was hired, and the person answered this question without explaining the reasons:
“Give my car key to the doctor, let him take the elderly to the hospital, and I stay with my dream lover in the bus stop.”
Everyone I know think that it is the best answer, but none of them (including myself) thought about this answer in the first place.
Little philosophy: We rarely thought about giving up what we have (e.g., car keys). But sometimes if we could give up something, we might get more.
Coffee Break Wisdom is short stories of wisdom and humor that make you think and smile.
